Gilad, Eldad & Ehud

On July 12, 2006, Israeli soldiers Eldad Regev and Udi (Ehud) Goldwasser were abducted from Israel and dragged across the Lebanese border by Hezbollah terrorists while pursuing their duties to keep the nation of Israel secure.

Over two years later, their bodies were finally returned home to Israel, and their funerals were held in Israel on July 17, 2008.

Since this tragic abduction, the Goldwasser and Regev families worked with supporters throughout the world on their release, and their pain and anguish were shared by the international Jewish community. As the families continue their mourning process, The Board of Rabbis of Southern California, The Jewish Federation and the Los Angeles Jewish community salute these brave sons of Israel.

May the memories of Udi Goldwasser and Eldad Regev be a blessing always, and may their families and loved ones find comfort in knowing that the world mourns with them. They and their families will remain in our prayers.

Another soldier, Gilad Shalit, who was kidnapped from Israel into Gaza by Hamas in June 2006, is still missing. We join his family, the people of Israel, and the families of all missing Israeli soldiers, in demanding and praying for their safe return.

If you wish to send condolences to the families of the kidnapped soldiers, you can send an e-mail to habanim.org@gmail.com.

The Board of Rabbis also encourages you to visit www.freethesoldiers.org for more information and for ways to remain involved.

Sderot

Living a mere kilometer from the Gaza strip, the residents of Sderot continue to suffer severe physical, emotional and economic damage from the continued rain of Qassam rockets fired on them by Hamas. Homes, businesses and schools have been destroyed, and men, women and children live in a constant state of terror and genuine peril, anxiously awaiting the next siren which gives them a mere 15 seconds to seek shelter.

We encourage you to learn more about one way you can help through the following web site, which highlights summer programs for the children of Sderot:
